Community Composting in Lowertown Ottawa

This project was in collaboration with Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City (OBEC) and a local Ottawa resident to develop a community compost project for Lowertown. The research team consisted of a University of Ottawa student and Jonathan Rausseo, advisor and Campus Sustainability Manager at the University of Ottawa.

Phase 1 of the project involved researching the current systems and opportunities in place for composting in Lowertown.

Phase 2 was project implementation, and discussions with residents and the city on implementing composting in the community. Due to COVID restrictions, the survey and support for Lowertown community compost, which requires specific connections and presentations with residential buildings, is on hold.
